LESSology Challenge #15: Guest designer Lalo

Photobucket

Please give a warm welcome to our guest designer for LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge - the lovely Lalo of Crafting in Lala-land.

Hello LESS-ology fans! I'm so excited that I get to share an up-cycle project with all of you. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Lalo and I live in Hawaii with my four awesome kids. I love paper crafts and when I get to use it to up-cycle something it's like a bonus. I so love LESS-ology. You can always find some great ideas and the design team is just awesome.

So I don't know why but when Yvonne said bookends I instantly thought "bottles". I'm weird that way. So this is what my bookends project is all about.

I took two glass bottles and cleaned them up real good. Goo Gone is an up-cycle gals dream I'm telling you. Then I just jazzed them up with some Studio Calico embellishments and that's pretty much it. But how do I make them sturdy you ask? Well with a bunch of free sand. Yes it's free when you can drive to the beach. Just pored it into the bottles and they're not going anywhere. This project is super fast, easy, and looks fab on a shelf.

Thank-you for letting me share with you today and I hope you were inspired!

Oooh...what a clever use of those bottles Lalo! Please leave a little love for our fabulous guest Lalo! :)

LESSology Challenge #15: Creative Inspiration of Linda Lapotka!

Photobucket

Hello there friends! How about one more creative inspiration to help you along with LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge? Let's see what Linda Lapotka came up with! :)

Linda Lapotka

Hi There, I am so excited about sharing my creations for this challenge. I had so much fun making my bookends.

I started with a few things I found in my collection of "Interesting Things I Just Have to Have."

There is an old domino box, an old wood and metal stamp, two old metal jelly molds and some pieces of pine.
Then I painted, drilled, glued and this is how it turned out.
Most of the wood is painted black and covered with Graphic 45 paper.
I made one of the jelly molds into a pin cushion and the other one is to hold teasures.
I added old buttons, dominos, a broken zipper, bobbins, a key, a lock and some lace.

The video shows how I created my bookends. There is a hidden box and some tricks to keep your bookends in place.  I hope you will be inspired to create some of your own and join in our challenge here at LESSology.

Isn't that a fantastic bookend project? We would love to see your entries for LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge!  Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

LESSology Challenge #15: Creative Inspiration of Amy Tsuruta and Shahrul Niza!

Photobucket

Hello...hello friends! Today we get to see Amy Tsuruta and Shahrul Niza's take on LESSolgy Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge.

Amy Tsuruta

Hi All,

It's Amy, here to show you how the LESSolgy Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge inspired me!

We love candles in our household and this particular Vanilla Cupcake one had finally run it's course...I certainly wasn't going to toss that cannister...

So I embellished it:

I used Heidi Stock's Summer Honey digi collection for the paper and the sentiment is

EAD Designs

Here's a pic of it in 'real' action:

Hi all. It's Shahrul here, with my debut post for LESSology Challenge #15 : The Bookend Challenge. So excited to share with everyone, my latest altered project :). I found some gorgeous little black vinyl records (~ 6.5 " in diameter) at the flea market recently and they were perfect for the bookends project!. So here what I made; bookends small enough to hold a few little old books!.

I used a couple of metal brackets from DIY store and a couple of wooden rulers to hold both ends together (the vinyls are so light and needed support, hence the rulers *wink*). I used brads to adhere brackets and vinyls to the rulers.

I left parts of the vinyls bare because they already looked gorgeous. The silver beads remind me of sparkly 'disco globes'!.

Although, I can't resist to decorate the insides with patterned papers, eyelets and laces.

I stamped some phrases on coordinating patterned papers and adhered to the rulers (both top and bottom). Sanded off the edges and distressed with archival ink.

Can't wait to see your creative ideas and have fun playing along with us!. Hugs.

~ Shahrul ~

Hope our fabulous design team has given you some fabulous ideas for creating your own bookends. We would love to see your entries for LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge!  Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

Julie Tucker-Wolek
Hi everyone! I am super excited about this month's challenge! I love book ends and I had the "perfect" ones to alter! lol-- not really -- the guys on my book ends kinda creeped me out - so I am happy I had an excuse to alter them! lol! :)

Yes -- these are hand carved little guys on here -- and I am sure that someone made them with some amazing craftsmanship-- but to be honest -- they really did creep me out!! lol!! So off they came!!

Once they were off -- I spray painted the base pieces off white -- then added Graphic 45 Kraft paper to the base -- and then added some Studio Calico mists on top of the paper and spray paint --- I also took these ordinary rocks and painted them bronze to go with my theme --

And here is what I made with my book ends --

I fussy cut a ton of Graphic 45's paper!!

Can't wait to see what everyone creates!! ~~Julie

I can't wait to see how this challenge inspires YOU!

Yvonne Yam

Hello there friends!  I recently added a new desk to my bedroom [I used to craft from a pull-out table] and have to make sure everything I use is aesthetically functional given space limitations.

Bookend project

So my bookend is also "home" for my remote controls. I adhered scrunched-up wrapping tissue to a wooden container, then heavily "distressed" with inks, embossing powers and mists for a weathered look.

Here's how it looks on my craft table, propping up my sketch journals....:)

Have these awesome ladies given you more ideas for LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge? We would love to see your entries! :)

LESSology Challenge #15: Creative Inspiration of Laurel Seabrook and Kirsty Vittetoe!

Photobucket

Hello altered enthusiasts! Are you ready to pretty up an old boring bookend OR use something you've always like in place of a bookend? Here at LESSology we want you to think creatively when playing along with our challenges. It really doesn't have to be super complicated OR take hours in the craftroom. We love to see simple ideas, beautifully executed too. Check out these cool ideas from design team members Laurel Seabrook and Kirsty Vittetoe! :)

Laurel Seabrook

Hi there, Laurel here and I have a really easy bookend for you today.  I really love the clean and simple look in my house, still struggling with the clean part ;)  I also like the Shabby Beach feel so I am drawn to whiteness.  I picked up this rock one day on one of our outings.  I like the natural look, but I decided to add some white and I just painted it with some acrylic paint and voila, a quick and easy project and I love it!

Kirsty Vittetoe

Hi, it's me Kirsty here with my project for LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge.

When we were decorating our guest room in our house, we had a few ideas for the theme, I love a "New York City" room because NYC has a special place in my heart. My husband wanted an "Oriental" room. In the end, we decided to have an "International" room as we both love traveling, and that room has pictures from all over the world, we have picture of the Big Band, the Eiffel, the Empire State Building and photographs from Salzburg. When I needed a bookend for the bookshelf in that room, here is what I come up with.....

don't throw your empty candy can away

paint it with black paint....

I filled it up with sand..... and make my own NYC skyline out of old book pages

and here I have a bookend in my "International" guest room, still in the "New York City" theme I wanted, LOL!!!!!
and you probably can already tell who is my favorite author.

I actually have a story behind this project too. Long long time ago, when my husband and I were at our early stage of dating, he drove me home back to Manhattan one night after we had dinner at Edgewater, NJ. Across the Hudson river, we saw a big round moon, and I remembered clearly that the radio in the car was playing Christopher Cross's "Arthur's Theme", the line said "if you get caught between the moon and New York City, the best that you can do, the best that you can do is fall in love......" Yep, I guess we were caught between the Moon and New York City that night! : )

Aren't these totally do-able ideas? We would love to see your take on LESSology Challenge #15: The Bookend Challenge!
