LESSology Challenge #13: Creative projects of Lisa Saunders and Amy Tsuruta

Photobucket

Today we get to see the projects of design team members Lisa Saunders and Amy Tsuruta!

Lisa Saunders

Hi : )

I like to keep bits and pieces on my desk. I keep bits in pretty dishes and saucers. When I create I then add little bits to my LO's.
I found this mini chest of drawers in a thrift store last year but I hadn't decided what I wanted to do with it yet. Until this challenge came up : )

I've decided it's the perfect thing to sit on my desk and store more little bits as my dishes are over flowing.
I didn't want the decoration of the drawers to be too OTT. It needed to be practical as it is going to be used.
So I covered it in old book pages, mod podge and gesso. I really love this look. I decided that I wanted it left like this. I finished with inking in parts to given a pinky/red tinge.

And the final touch some twine and a Studio Calico Heart.

Sometimes you don't need to add loads and loads to a projcet. Sometimes Less really is more.

Thank you for stopping by today.
I look forwatd to seeing your creations.

Amy Tsuruta

Hello!
Amy T here with my LESSology Challenge #13 Chest of Drawers project...do you remember this sneak peek?

Well, here is the before product:

It's one of those countertop organizers.  I happened to find it at a Salvation Army store in Seattle and thought:

BINGO!

Whaddya think?

I literally used a drawer....

It's the perfect size and chunkiness.  So, I'm still smitten with Basic Grey's Konnichiwa collection.  That  sweet girl has been stamped, colored and paper pieced.  She's on glue dots...what's that?  Well, that note paper style base is actually upcycled Sassafras packaging.....I just topped it off with a band of Konnichiwa paper, a quote sticker by Teresa Collins and that fab hand made loopy bloom is compliments of my bloggie friend, Sherry.

You can't really tell by the pictures, but I cut 4x6 index cards in half and have them stacked behind....I haven't decided if I want to make them birthday calendar pages or a daily journal....

I can't wait to see how the Chest of Drawers challenge inspires YOU!

Fabulous projects ladies! What about you? Ready to give LESSology Challenge #13: Chest of Drawers a go? We would love to see your awesome entries!  Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

LESSology Challenge #12: Creative projects of Tesa Broman, Amy Tsuruta, Dora Dekker and Lisa Saunders

Photobucket

Hope you are brimming with ideas for LESSology Challenge #12: Photo Block Challenge. If not, here's more creative inspiration for you from Tesa Broman, Amy Tsuruta, Dora Dekker and Lisa Saunders.

Hi! Here is my take on the Photo Blocks challenge. I did a 2x2x2 block with photos from our summer vacation last year and a nice sentiment to go. Lots of green, such a happy color! Thought this would take us through the last month until next vacation...

As a base for my block, I used an old yewellery box. It was blue and a little thin, so I started with painting the corners with white gesso and cover it all with cardstock go get a sturdy strukture.

Now I can't wait to see what you all come up with!!!

Amy Tsuruta

Kind of a funny story behind my project....I emailed the LESSology Design Team to see what all everyone was going to use for their Photo Block base...some how the conversations got me thinking about something...I looked in my room...in a stash box that I have and BAM.....

I found this photo block:

The papers are Pink Paislee Nantucket...the alpha was a blog candy that I won from the fabbie Nina Yang!  See that smidge of a doily?  It is from some Prima packaging...LOVE it.

The kids and I spent a couple days at the beach during mid-winter break...

I didn't get one single picture of the girl...this is as good as it gets...her very fun chevron scarf I bought her for Christmas:

...shades of the girl...

She's soon-to-be-seventeen...need I say more?

I just had fun filling up each panel with goodies from the Nantucket collection.

Me and the Boy...I know that I'll look at this later and wonder how old we were that year so I'm just announcing it here:)

I can't wait to see how you're inspired to create a Photo Block project!  Remember that your project needs to contain at least one upcycled/recycled item!

Dora Dekker

Hello everyone, this is such a challenge...I mean a real one!
But I have made someting that cheers me up, and I see it when I wake up every morning:)
This is what I used, we all know them

I used waterbased glue and simple white napkins, and that is the base...used a lot of gesso to make it white and because of the napkins you will get some structure. on this block.
Let it dry and spray on different glimmermist or perfect pearls, it will look like an old rock!
After that you can decorate, and I have used an angel and my favorite quote.
Hope you like my idea of an altered block!

Lisa Saunders

Hello, Lisa here : )

I have to say, this challenge had me slightly stumped.
I knew what I wanted to do, but couldn't find what I wanted to make my photo block. Finally I found this in a local thrift store and instantly had an idea.

It's not a block as such, but I love the deep block that is behind the attached frame allowing you to create a 3d piece behind the glass.

And this is what I made.

The actual block at the back measures 4x4 inches and is almost 2 inches deep.
I tore off the back to start with.

And the covered the wooden frame in moulding paste.
I took a floral background stamp and created the textured look.

Once it was dry, I dabbed some pearl white acrylic paint in places where the wood was slightly showing through and then misted lightly and added some glimmer glam in places.

And then the decorating.
I took a piece of white card that would cover the back of the block and created a mini layout. The insides were covered with patterned paper and the mini creation was stuck to the back.

Finally a wooden butterfly was added along with some glitter here and there.

Thanks for stopping by today.
I can't wait to see what you come up with : )

Another round of fabulous ideas from our awesome design team! We would love to see your take on LESSology Challenge #12: Photo Block Challenge! Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

LESSology Challenge #11: Creative inspiration from Amy Tsuruta and Lisa Saunders!

Photobucket

Hope you are hard at work with your projects for LESSology Challenge #11: Flights of Fantasy! Or maybe you just need a few more ideas to get their creativity engine started?

Amy Tsuruta

Hello!!!

Amy T here, sooo excited to share my Flights of Fantasy project with you today!

Can you read the sentiment?

It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.~Erma Bombeck

I made a wall cardboard 'canvas'....the base is packaging material that I've been hoarding {10.25 x 3.5}.  All the papers are from my latest Pink Paislee purchase, the Nantucket collection.

The left panel is all Pink Paislee:

The middle panel uses October Afternoon silhouette stickers:

See the butterfly?  I used the Stampin' Up die on yup, a Starbucks Coffee Cup Sleeve...love those things:)  The center is a Pink Paislee Chip Tile...

I had such a fun time putting together this project and it has a home in the 'ole scrap room:)

I can't wait to see how you're inspired by the challenge!

Lisa Saunders

My sister and her family have just booked their first trip to Orlando.
So I decided to make my nieces and nephew little notebooks for their flight.

I covered these hardbacked spiral bound notebooks. Each one has clouds and planes, but each one is slightly different. I have added their names and covered the front of each one with modge podge to secure it all down nicely.
I have laminated a cloud and plane for each book and tied with ribbon to the top wire spiral.

I'll give them the books before they go with a pack of pencils for each of them.

Some really fun ideas for LESSology Challenge #11: Flights of Fantasy! Please feel free to interpret the challenge in your own unique way as long as you include at least one upcycled item in your creation. We would love to see your entries! :)

LESSology Challenge #7: Creative projects of Amy Tsuruta and Lisa Saunders

Ready to check out what design team members Amy Tsuruta and Lisa Saunders did for LESSology Challenge #7: You've got mail?

Amy Tsuruta

'ello!
Amy T here with my "You've Got Mail" project.
I'm a big fan of taking the 'cover sheet' of a 12 x 12 Collection and fussy cutting items.

Today's projects uses the Crate Paper I Love Winter Collection:

I decided to decorate my 'rescued' note card set.  For those of you that follow my blog may remember me mentioning that a gal at work recycled a bunch of 5x5 note cards/envelopes to me!  They were headed into the recycle bin because of the change in stationery.

Here's the envelope:

The Trio of Snow Peeps and the "happy winter" sentiment were fussy cut from the collection 'cover page'.

Here's the coordinating card:

See that Christmas Tree?  Yup, it was fussy cut too!  I cut it in the shape of a tree and did some stitching to make it seem like the pieces were stitched together:)

Here's the duo together:

Can't wait to see how the challenge inspires YOU!

Lisa Saunders

I've made this for my Mum. She's been struggling abit lately. She's taking on too much and is really tired. Seeing as we don't live close I though I would send her this.

I've taken a plain 125x125cm envelope and stuck down the flap and them trimmed off the top so the envelope has become a pocket now. I've decorated the envelope and this Maya Road Chipboard Teapot and taken this Dr Suess quote.
I have a gift card for her local coffee shop to slide into the pocket so she can take some time out and have coffee and cake with her hubby : )
I shall pop it in the post and hopefully it will be a lovely surprise.

Are you inspired to create your own mail art for LESSology Challenge #7: You've got mail? The deadline for entries is Sunday December 11, 11.59pm EST. Please read the challenge rules to ensure your eligibility for our prizes.

Today we get to see the cute jars from Amy Tsuruta and Lisa Saunders! :)

Amy Tsuruta

Hello, Amy here to share my Altered Jar project.  The timing was perfect for this challenge because I'm going to a birthday party next weekend and needed a neat packaging idea.

Introducing the Canning Jar:

I love canning jars....not in the "kitchen" sense, but to alter...they are so many ways that you can decorate them.  This particular jar has been upcycled...the second item that is upcycled is the diecut.  I used a nestie with an upcycled Westin Hotel chippie coaster... they were scattered around our hotel room.  The Cameo Rub-On is perfect for the birthday girl...the sentiment is a rub-on too.

I used the same Jenni Bowlin paper inside the jar that I did for the lid...

I decided to just plop the interior piece of patterned paper in there just in case my friend preferred the "clear" look....she can just remove it.

I can't wait to see how the Jars of Cuteness challenge inspires you!

Lisa Saunders

I always wash and keep my old Jars. I use them for various different gift ideas.
One of my favourite gifts are sweetie jars.
I like to make these as teacher presents and make a tag saying ' Thank you for being a sweet teacher'. These always go down a treat.

And it's a great way to recycle old glass jars and use old old paper and ribbon scraps.

I can't wait to see what you do with yours xxx

Inspired to make your own jars of cuteness yet? We would love to see your entries for LESSology Challenge #5: Jars of Cuteness! The deadline for entries is Sunday November 13, 11.59pm EST. Please read the challenge rules to ensure your eligibility for our prizes.
