LESSology Challenge #13 Guest Designer: Irit Shalom

Photobucket

Our guest designer for LESSology Challenge #13: Chest of Drawers is the awesome Irit Shalom

My name is Irit and I am an Israeli scrapper and crafter.   I love Lessology  and enter my altered projects to this challenge site a lot and I am very glad to be a guest designer for April. In my real life I am a working dentist, a wife, mom of 4 and a very new grandma of one baby boy. I scrapped here and there for a few years, but I have done it seriously for the last 3 years. During this time I’ve made huge progress. I have been a Design Team member on more than a dozen challenge blogs, and a guest designer on a dozen more and designed for 5-6 USA companies.. Currently I design for Tando Creative UK, Robin's Nest, The Rubber Cafe, Inspired By Stamping and 3 more USA and Australian companies. I mostly scrap, but I also love altered art and card making. My style is shabby/vintage, but sometimes I try to change it a bit to a clean and simple one. You are most welcome to visit my blog and my Facebook page, and add me as your friend. See you there! http://iritshalom.blogspot.com

This chest of drawers was made with Melissa Frances products, some Prima flowers, lots of buttons and with my favorite inking rechnique(it's just ink around as much as you like-lol). Very easy  project, but you need a lot of time to cut all small pieces of paper for those small drawers.

Thanks for a chance to design for Lessology and you will be seeing more of my challenge entries here.

What a beautiful project Irit! Thank you so much for sharing! :)

Hope our guest designer Irit has inspired your project for LESSology Challenge #13: Chest of Drawers! The deadline for entries is May 6, 11.59pm EST. Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

LESSology Challenge #13: Creative inspiration from Linda Lapotka

Photobucket

Hello altered enthusiasts! Are you working hard on your entries for LESSology Challenge #13: Chest of Drawers? How about one more inspiration from our design team? Let's see how Linda Lapotka tackled the challenge...in a little video tutorial. :)

Linda Lapotka

Hi Linda here. I just love the challenge this month.  I was going to make a chest of drawers out of match boxes but a friend gave me this great box and it was perfect for this challenge.
This is what it looked like when I got it.

First I sanded off all the old paint.
Next I painted it black.
Then I used Graphic 45 paper Olde Curiosity Shoppe and covered the drawers, sides and top. Finally I decorated this fun little Chest of Drawers.

Here is the video of what I did.

Here is the finished chest of drawers.

Isn't it a fabulous project? Come play along with the LESSology Challenge #13 Chest of Drawers challenge. It ends on Sunday May 6, 11.59pm EST. Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

LESSology Challenge #13: Creative projects of Lisa Saunders and Amy Tsuruta

Photobucket

Today we get to see the projects of design team members Lisa Saunders and Amy Tsuruta!

Lisa Saunders

Hi : )

I like to keep bits and pieces on my desk. I keep bits in pretty dishes and saucers. When I create I then add little bits to my LO's.
I found this mini chest of drawers in a thrift store last year but I hadn't decided what I wanted to do with it yet. Until this challenge came up : )

I've decided it's the perfect thing to sit on my desk and store more little bits as my dishes are over flowing.
I didn't want the decoration of the drawers to be too OTT. It needed to be practical as it is going to be used.
So I covered it in old book pages, mod podge and gesso. I really love this look. I decided that I wanted it left like this. I finished with inking in parts to given a pinky/red tinge.

And the final touch some twine and a Studio Calico Heart.

Sometimes you don't need to add loads and loads to a projcet. Sometimes Less really is more.

Thank you for stopping by today.
I look forwatd to seeing your creations.

Amy Tsuruta

Hello!
Amy T here with my LESSology Challenge #13 Chest of Drawers project...do you remember this sneak peek?

Well, here is the before product:

It's one of those countertop organizers.  I happened to find it at a Salvation Army store in Seattle and thought:

BINGO!

Whaddya think?

I literally used a drawer....

It's the perfect size and chunkiness.  So, I'm still smitten with Basic Grey's Konnichiwa collection.  That  sweet girl has been stamped, colored and paper pieced.  She's on glue dots...what's that?  Well, that note paper style base is actually upcycled Sassafras packaging.....I just topped it off with a band of Konnichiwa paper, a quote sticker by Teresa Collins and that fab hand made loopy bloom is compliments of my bloggie friend, Sherry.

You can't really tell by the pictures, but I cut 4x6 index cards in half and have them stacked behind....I haven't decided if I want to make them birthday calendar pages or a daily journal....

I can't wait to see how the Chest of Drawers challenge inspires YOU!

Fabulous projects ladies! What about you? Ready to give LESSology Challenge #13: Chest of Drawers a go? We would love to see your awesome entries!  Please read our challenge rules to ensure eligibility for our prizes. :)

LESSology Challenge #13: Creative projects of Mandy Dodd, Julie Tucker-Wolek and Lynnda Hosni

Ready for another round of creative inspiration from our fabulous design team? Check out how Mandy Dodd, Julie Tucker-Wolek and Lynnda Hosni interpreted LESSology Challenge #13: Chest of drawers.

Mandy Dodd

Hi it's Mandy here with my interpretation of the 'Chest of Drawers' challenge...

I had a couple of these cardboard boxes that I'd bought some cute little icecream spoons in.  I wanted to throw these boxes away, but something made me hold onto them 'just in case' (I'm sure you understand that feeling!)  Just as well!  They are perfect for this challenge!

This is one of the boxes, it looks like a little single drawer.

Just undo the outer casing and remove the transparent window

Cover with paper and replace the window

Lucky the drawers were the right colour blue or else I'd be painting them!
Place a contrasting paper insert in the bottom of the tray

Looks pretty to see the two patterned papers working well together

Next, cover the casing of the second box

And I've covered the rippled insert for this drawer (remember it had spoons- this is handy!) Now it has dividers!

Finished by adding some lace and stacking on on the other!

Thanks for taking the time to look and I cant wait to see what fabulous creative drawers you come up with!

xx

Hi everyone! As soon as I read this month's challenge, I knew what I wanted to do!! When I was a child, my maternal Grandmother gave me a little chest of drawers that belonged to her - and I have treasured it all these years.  Well, it has seen it's better days (My Mom has told me that my Grandma was born in 1905, and she was given this chest of drawers when she was a child - so it's almost 100 years old!!), so I decided it was time for a make over to have my give to my daughter Brookie!

Here is what the chest of drawers looked like -

And then I painted it - and since I wanted to keep it with an antique 'look' - I misted it while it was still wet - and then took a paper towel and dabbed it to have some of the original black show through (kind of like a crackle paint look)

And here is my finished project!!

And some close ups -

I wanted the top to look like the top of a dresser -

 The back side -

I even lined the inside with papers - I am planning on putting my daughter's Barbie clothes in it -

Can't wait to see what you create for this challenge!

Hello Ladies!!!

I am pretty excited today…as it is my 1st reveal project as part of the DT Design Team !!!  Woohoo….!!!
Okay… since this is my 1st…I decided NOT to do the cliché …. Hah!!! Nothing really fancy… - I decided to do a little mini chest of drawers!!! Super Cute, even my son Matin loves it!!!!... [Actually it's his NOW!!]
Here we go….
1.       I found the match box template from Kell Belle studio blogspot
2.       Walla!! These are the ready match boxes… PP used crate & Echo Park.
3.       As part of LESSology criteria – Each project should incorporate at least [1] recycling or upcycling  And I decided to use the Glue Dots Packaging for the cabinet
4.       After I dolled-up the packaging…

You can fill up the drawers with yummy goodies...just like what I did here....

I really had so much fun creating this chest of drawers!!!
This could be a gift box… and the beauty of this box is you can fill them with tons of LOVE...like petite flowers, buttons, brads, stickers and many more….

So don’t wait… come along and join me and the rest of the team over @ LESSology… I so look forward to seeing what you create for this month challenge – “Chest of Drawers”
