LESSology Challenge #40: Creative inspiration of Lizzy Hill

Ready to check out another travel-inspired project? Let's see how design team member Lizzy Hill was inspired by LESSology Challenge #40: Travelogue.

Hey there! Today it's all about TRAVEL...& I've done an art journal page for a change. My recycled elements are the book pages & illustration:

They 'spoke' to me of travel - so this was the starting point of my page. And of course, it brought back the amazing memories I have of our many trips OS....so I wrote the names of some of those places that we really loved visiting:

France & Italy....2 FIRM faves!!! Turkey, too....& below, you can see I've stamped a map background which is just peeking through around the page:

And of COURSE, England:) I added some postage stamp embellies....old transfers:

This is something I strongly believe! It teaches you so much about different cultures, histories, peoples, buildings, but much more than this, it teaches us about OURSELVES. How we cope with traveling - interact with people, react to the experiences that travel always throws at us, is a learning experience! LOL.....after that sermon you deserve to see the finished page:):)

Can you see I've popped in some compasses in the background too?

Can't wait to see what you come up with this month:)
 Happy scrapping ~ Lizzy ♥♥♥

LESSology Challenge #40: Creative inspiration of Mitra Pratt

 photo Challenge-40-design-team-projects_zpse454a384.jpg

Are you digging through your supplies to find travel-related elements for LESSology Challenge #40: Travelogue? How about turning your toolbox into something totally spectacular like design team member Mitra Pratt?

Never pass up a free metal tool box, even if it's a bright shiny red with sharpie letters! Wait, you don't believe me?

Let me get you a before photo!

This lovely item came home with my husband and was part of a training course he took. Had to cover up the sharpie in a big hurry!

The whole thing got a coat of white paint! Well, maybe three to be precise! And then a bit of sanding to make it look shabby. Also modged podged on scrap paper & washi tape & then added some gold paint...gold paint to match the feet!

Of course, a tool box that is going to hold crafty stuff needs GOLD FEET, right? Those feet were originally brass knobs (with flat bottoms) and came from the ReStore (a thrift store where proceeds help Habitat for Humanity). They were a bit pricey at $2 piece, but were super heavy!

I also got those wood appliques there. Those were put to use on the top!

My absolute favorite part are the flowers, doily, and map paper snuck in right around the handle.

Our challenge this month at LESSology is to include elements that have to do with travel...maps. tickets, luggage, etc. In this particular case, I used elements ON luggage!

See, this is a perfect carrier for stamp pads & stamps when I go off crafting with my friends!

Hope you get a chance to play along with us!

Ready for another round of inspiration? Let's see what design team member Julie Tucker-Wolek did for LESSology Challenge #40: Travelogue.

Hi everyone!! :)

Julie here with you today to share my take on this months challenge!

I was so INSPIRED by Paige's magnet frame, I decided to make something similar for our family, since every time we travel, we try and pick a magnet to show where we've been! :)

I had this old, seen better days, now rusted out pizza pan :)

I spray painted it a brick color :)

I also had this map from our trip to California/Las Vegas in July :)

And here is what I turned all the above into .... our very own magnet board for the magnets we collect through our travels!!! :)

I had some vintage milk caps that I glued all around the edges :)

I cut the map into a large circle, used some distress ink to color it up and had some vintage Scrabble tiles that spells out my title :)

LESSology Challenge #40: Creative inspiration of Kirsty Vittetoe and Yvonne Yam

 photo Challenge-40-design-team-projects_zpse454a384.jpg

Feeling a little wanderlust? Then come join us for LESSology Challenge #40: Travelogue. :) How about a little creative inspiration from design team members Kirsty Vittetoe and Yvonne Yam?

Kirsty Vittetoe

I just came back from San Francisco 2 weeks ago, and this map I get from the hotel can't be any better for my mini album.

first I cut out the part of the map for the places I would like to highlight in my album

gather the journaling card from my project life plus some bits of pieces of left-over chipboard that I can used to make the album.

I will not take up too much space here, if you want to see the details of how to make this album, you can hop over to my blog on Wednesday 9/3.

I love to travel. While I don't always get to stay at the luxurious hotels, I like to pop in to admire the lush and beautifully furnished hotel lobbies....which provided the inspiration for my mixed media canvas. :)

The base of the canvas was first covered with wrapping tissue from packaging. Then I created the "wallpaper" with some light modeling paste and The Crafter's Workshop stencil.

The pouffe was an old toy which I painted and added a "cushion" with sponge and lace. The "vase" was from a broken light bulb...I painted it and filled with faux stamens.

The mirror was from an old travel makeup kit which I covered with washi tape and painted lace. The "frame" for the map was the cap from a Starbucks coffee bottle. The parts for the "chandelier" were bits of old costume jewellery.
