LESSology Challenge #60: Creative inspiration of Lizzy Hill

Not all cups/mugs need to be 3D especially if you don't need to use it for drinking...*winks* Confused? Let's take a look at designer Lizzy Hill's creative take on LESSology Challenge #60: Mug Shot!

 photo Design-team-member-Lizzy_zps8033ad7b.jpg

Hi there! So, this month's challenge was very challenging for me! Have you noticed I tend to be more a LO peep than Off the Page? But a MUG....well, apart from my face.....which is a sort of mug.....
well... this had me truly stumped.

Light-bulb moment. What about a MUG CARD? Searched the internet. Found a cup card template.
Got my Bro [that is, my Brother Scan'n'Cut] out & we went to town. Figuratively speaking, that is!
Here's a few 'process' shots:

Covered the cut out shape in pretty patterned paper! Then, found some old tissue paper & spied the butterflies.

Fussy cutting commenced. Have you tried it with tissue paper? It AIN'T easy!!

Inked up some bits of lace I had....

then I'd seen a tutorial from FILIZLOVESPAPER HERE. It's about using stickers to create your own embellies. Soooo..... to make some of the butterflies, the teapot & the tag:

This is what I did:

Paints on a brayer & slapped on some acrylic paint. Then...stamped randomly over top once dry:

Then fussy cut or die cut or punch out shapes! Looks brill. Easy peasy, too. Before I attached the labels to cardstock:

After:

Right! So lots of recycled stuff used..... & teacup sorted!
Luck! Can't wait to see how you get creative with this challenge:)
Blessings ~ Lizzy

LESSology Challenge #60: Creative inspiration of Mitra Pratt

 photo Challenge-60-Mug-Shot-Design-Team_zpssybm4u4s.jpg

Ahhh...a decorated teacup can make such a lovely display. I'm always on the lookout for vintage ones at flea markets. Shall we check out what designer Mitra Pratt did with hers for LESSology Challnge #60: Mug Shot

It's entirely possible I have a thing for gold. Add in a vintage tea cup with gold accents and I'm smitten. However, I'm usually not inclined to actually use them for tea, although I can imagine a tea party with mismatched cups and fancy cookies and that makes me happy. I did need to eventually come up with a use for my addition! Thankfully Yvonne here at LESSology seems to read my mind and comes up with these cool challenges so I can stretch a little! So this time round we're decorating cups or mugs!

I cut a bunch of music paper roses and rolled them onto gold pipecleaners using hot glue. When they cooled, I then pushed them into a piece of foam I had hot glued in the cup so I could make a bouquet. Everything in this cup with the exception of the little white roses with gems & pearl branches are upcycled.

I had added a ribbon at one point but it made it really hard to see the cup, so I changed it up a bit, but think of the possibilities!

What does one do with a tea cup bouquet? I imagine they would make a nice "card" if you added a tag sentiment or a name card at a place setting. I'm enjoying mine on a corbel I painted up the other day.

Hope you get a chance to play along with our cup or mug challenge! You folks are really creative out there so I can't wait to see what you make!

LESSology Challenge #60: Creative inspiration of Lisa Bzibziak

Hello friends! Fancy some bling on your cup/mug? Why not make your own like designer Lisa Bzibziak did for LESSology Challenge #60: Mug Shot?

So this month's challenge here at Lessology is Mug Shot... decorate a mug or a cup.  When I was away at an event this Spring, we had these cute little plastic "throwaway" cups on our table and I couldn't bear to toss mine so I brought it home with me figuring I'd use it on my workspace to throw all of those extra little things... sequins I find after I've put that particular baggy away or that managed to escape and dive off the table and my toe finds it a little later; extra cuts from glittery paper that I'm sure I'll use on a future project but I'm not sure quite what to do with them; gems that fall off of my creations on that off day I didn't liquid glass every single thing I added to the card and I find them on the floor not sure what they went with.. but I may find where it's missing from or I could still use it... too lazy to put it away and certainly can't throw it out.  At the time, the place for all of that stuff was in the lid of my stamp cleaner and I figured it was time to be able to use that again.

When this challenge came up I looked at it and thought... well.. a container for such pretty and valuable items such as these should be ... well.. pretty!  And I really have always wanted a bejeweled goblet.  AND I did have all of these gems that I got very inexpensively somewhere yet have been sitting in my gem drawer unused for at least three years now... if not longer.. why.. never the right size or color for a project I'm working on... always something better... and plus... once I use them they are gone...so...

I also added a glass heart or two that are clear ... the one above looks pink-ish but that's because I've already filled the cup up with pretty items and the color is showing through.. kinda cool.  I used some black shimmer trim around the top... just 'cause.. I mean... I definitely have enough jewels left over to finish it off, but I thought that glittery trim might finish off the top nicely.

I also found a couple of these pretty colored acrylic butterflies in my stash of old jewelry baubles and they made the perfect addition.  I believe I bought the earrings that these hung from back in my Prince/Purple Rain/Hair Band/Perm/Zebra pants days.

Let me say... I am definitely not the one to call on if you want a mosaic done..lol!  But for what it is and if you don't look too close.. I think it turned out pretty.  A couple times today I caught myself stopping my work just to look at it sparkle and daydream a bit.

And see.. it's only half full!  It's like a little cup of treasures that I'll dig through here and there when I'm trying to decide what little nugget I need to finish off a project.

So... your turn.. and I cannot wait to see what you create!

LESSology Challenge #60: Creative inspiration of Yvonne Yam

Have an old cup/mug that could use a little love? How about decorating it for LESSology Challenge #60: Mug Shot? Let's see what design team member Yvonne Yam came up with...

I really wanted to make something from a sturdy beer can I kept in my stash....and finally got to use!

Here is my beer can turned beer "mug" for my paintbrushes. :)

I started with this can and used a can opener to remove the top.

Then I adhered some chipboard and old lace fabric.

I found an old shop strap that I adhered to create the "handle" for the beer mug.

After that, I spray painted the whole thing with silver paint.

And finished by adding embellishments.

Now I have a pretty beer "mug" for my paint brushes. :)
