LESSology Challenge #55: Creative inspiration of Yvonne Yam

Tassels are all the rage now....in bags, clothing, accessories and even home decor. Let's check out how design team member Yvonne Yam incorporated a pretty tassel on her project for LESSology Challenge #55: Pretty Tassels. 

Shhhh....don't tell on me...but I'm one of those tassel collectors. I have them in all the different materials like suede and leather. *winks*

I started this mixed media canvas by adhering remnant bits of lace and wrapping tissue to create a textured background. Then I glued on the blooms and leaves. After that, I covered the whole canvas with a light wash of gesso before adding mists.

Then I added finishing touches like the pearls and bling.

My tassel was originally pink suede.....I misted it to match the lilac hues on this mixed media canvas.

LESSology Challenge #54: Creative inspiration of Lizzy Hill

Well hello again friends! Ready for another round of creative inspiration from our design team? Today, we see how Lizzy Hill was inspired by a sweet wrapper for LESSology Challenge #54: Candy Land

Well, it's a NEW YEAR & our first LESSOLOGY challenge for the year. And it's a BEAUTY!

I used these lollies for inspiration:

I took the bold design element in the middle, the colours & the round shapes

to create this:

And yes! That's bubble wrap behind. Remember , to join in our challengesyou need to recycle or up-cycle at least one element. And the  colour was just perfect. I think it works a treat!

I've also used spray ink [Adirondack] to colour the hessian:

The buttons sprinkled around the page, & the anchor one here were from my stash. The wheel is from Mitra & was FUSSY cut from a card -mostly with a craft knife. Challenging in the extreme! Dylusions ink coloured it nicely like the Mentos wrapper.....& see? I STITCHED!!!!

The paint circles were created with an old toilet roll holder...& more recycled cardboard behind the photo got a smidgen of paint as well.

Mitra might recognize this tag, too....I had some vellum anchors, but they were a dull blue, so out came the nail polish! Worked a treat - the anchor behind the tag has been cut with my Brother ScanNCut machine....

LESSology Challenge #54: Creative inspiration of Mitra Pratt

Step into a candy store and you are a kid again! The bright and happy colours just make you smile.:) Let's see how design team member Mitra Pratt was inspired by LESSology Challenge#54: Candy Land. 

I have been holding on to these little bird cages from the second hand store for ages! Since the July time frame to be exact. It wasn't until recently that I glued them up with two different metal candlesticks using some epoxy. I had planned on spraying them black or white and then fancying them up with some flowers. However, when I originally had posted them on my blog, someone commented on their pretty bright colors! So, I saved myself a step and just painted their bases with some gold spray paint!

I also added a smidge of gold spray at the top and used epoxy to adhere upcycled toppers. The crystal one is a knob and the gold a lamp finial. The only new items used on these bird cages are the rock star glass birds and velvet flowers. The birds were on sale at the Corning Musuem of Glass and I had to have them. They were Christmas ornaments but I took the clip off the bottom so I could snuggle them down into that deep green spanish moss.

Those gold mesh leaves were also Christmas ornaments and were hanging out at the second hand store. I wired them them on and then hot glued on those velvet petaloo flowers. Loved the peachy rose color! All these bright colors fit right in with our challenge here at LESSology to use candy colors to inspire your work!

It hasn't been acting much like winter here lately so I've got them out on display in the kitchen where I can enjoy them! They remind me of spring!

LESSology Challenge #54: Creative inspiration of Yvonne Yam

Are you inspired by the bright and bold colours in the candy store? Let's see what design team member Yvonne Yam came up with LESSology Challenge #54: Candy Land. 

I really wanted to use this wrapping tissue that I've been hoarding in my stash. It was the packaging from Betsey Johnson. I love how the pops of bright colours pop off the black. 

I used the wrapping tissue on the base of my 6x6 canvas, then added dimensional elements for interest.

The circular chipboard was covered with gesso, then painted a pearlescent tint for a subtle shimmer.

The pink "bling" was from a freebie OPI bracelet which was a little too tacky to wear. The green "bling" was from an old choker necklace.
